Bleed
Artwork that extends beyond the final trim edge so printing reaches cleanly to the edge.
Bleed is the extra image or background area that extends beyond the finished edge of a printed piece. After printing, the piece is trimmed to size. The extra area prevents tiny white edges from appearing when the trim shifts slightly.
For many print products, 0.125 inches of bleed on each side is a common requirement, although the exact specification should always match the printer.
